(Ruach HaKodesh, Session 12e)
This episode of the Ruach HaKodesh series continues our discussion of the gift of prophecy. Last podcast we finished our brief survey of the gift of prophecy in Scripture. These are the topics we have covered thus far:
- In part 1, we talked about prophecy by looking at the history of interpretation within Christianity and Judaism.
- In part 2 we began looking at the gift of prophecy in Scripture.
- In part 3 we did an overview of the different eras of prophecy.
- In part 4 we discussed false prophecy.
After going through so many passages that describe prophecy and trying to understand what the Bible says, it leaves us with the question: so what? What is the practical application here? How do we apply this to our lives today?
And of course, a primary area of application is how do we assess people today who claim the status of prophet, or who claim to be exercising the gift of prophecy? How do modern expressions of prophecy compare with prophecy as practiced in Biblical times?
We will explore the different ideas and definitions of prophecy today that are taught in various Christian circles and discuss how it lines up with the Bible. Finally, in preparation for the next episode, we will delve into the theology of God’s revelation as we unpack what it means for God to speak to us today.
