Article by

(Ruach HaKodesh, Session 12b)

This session of the Ruach HaKodesh series takes a closer look at the gift of prophecy. In part 1, we talked about prophecy by looking at the history of interpretation within Christianity and Judaism.

This episode, part 2, begins with posing some important questions about prophecy in Scripture:

  • Is prophecy in the Tanakh the same as prophecy in the Apostolic Scriptures?
  • Is prophecy ecstatic or cognitive?

We then analyse the various Hebrew and Greek terms that are used for prophecy and prophets. Next, we look at the names of people who were considered prophets in Scripture. Finally, some key passages from Scripture are selected and studied. These key passages show us what prophecy is in the Bible and help us form a definition of prophecy that is grounded in Scripture.
