(Ruach HaKodesh, Session 12a)
This session of the Ruach HaKodesh series takes an in-depth look at the gift of prophecy. Unlike the gift of tongues, which is only mentioned a few times in Scripture, prophecy is everywhere. It is also a topic which has aroused some controversy among believers today. The following are some questions we can ask as we approach this topic:
- Should we, as believers today, be practicing prophecy? And if so, what does that look like?
- How do we effectively discern true prophecy from false prophecy?
- In what way do these issues bear on seeking God’s direction, discerning His will, or letting God guide us? How does God reveal Himself to us personally?
These questions and more cut to the core of what it means to have fellowship with God, to have a personal relationship with Him.
This episode—part one of six on the subject—seeks to frame our discussion about prophecy by looking at the history of interpretation within Christianity and Judaism. As such it sets the stage for the remaining episodes that focus on the Scriptural teaching regarding this activity of the Holy Spirit. It also lays the foundation for delving into the theology of God’s revelation, the manner in which God speaks to us in this world.
