Luke-Acts session 2: Unto You Is Born a Saviour

Article by

This session of our Luke-Acts series examines the stories surrounding the birth of John the Baptist and the birth of Yeshua in Luke 1–2. These chapters give us a portrait of Messiah that is undeniably Jewish. Themes of Israel’s restoration abound as angels and prophets proclaim the good news of a King who will defeat Israel’s enemies and reign on David’s throne in Jerusalem. The depiction Luke offers is strikingly political. Even in his visit to the Temple at the age of twelve, Yeshua offers a veiled claim to his Davidic inheritance, the city of Jerusalem which rightly belongs to him.
