Luke-Acts session 1: Harbingers of Redemption
November 19, 2020Podcast: Play in new window | Download
This is the first session in our Bible study series on Luke-Acts. The three areas of focus in this study are on Luke’s view of God’s people (Israel), God’s precepts (Torah), and God’s plan (eschatology). Traditionally, interpreters view Luke and Acts as representing a decisive break with the Tanakh (Old Testament) in these three areas. Recent trends in scholarship, however, offer a radically different approach. In this session we explore the meaning of the word “gospel,” the unity of Luke-Acts, and the prophetic overtones of Zechariah’s encounter with the angel Gabriel in Luke chapter 1.
